about

Antonio Matres, 42, is a Madrid-born artist and architect residing in New York City. Antonio began selling his art in 1990, as an art student in Madrid, Spain where he was awarded the school’s prize for Best Artwork. This opened the door for Antonio to begin commissioning portraits and artwork, first in his hometown of Madrid and later in cities throughout Europe including Berlin, Florence and New York.

Antonio’s love of art led him to pursue a Master’s Degree in Interior Design and Architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in Madrid. While building his career as an architect, Antonio served as Professor of Architectural Model and Installation Units; Coordinator for the Department of Arts and Technology in Architecture and Professor of Form Analysis at Camilo Jose Cela University and later taking on the planning and development of HABITARTE (inhabit), an introduction to interior design, at The Faculty of Fine Arts at The Complutense University of Madrid.

Antonio moved to New York City in 2013 and opened his own design firm, [AM] Studio where he focuses on both art and architectural projects. Antonio often combines the two in his work, most notably in his renovation of Ogilvy & Mather’s lobby at their world headquarters in New York City - a project which earned him six Design Awards for the mural he created.
